OKETRA FIRES | Top Tier Hearthstone Deck in MTG CC#58

This video features a variant of Jeskai Fires of Invention in a Standard Event, Best-of-one (BO1), in MTG Arena.

There are three different Jeskai Fires builds — the kind with Fae of Wishes, the kind with Sarkhan, the Masterless and lots of planeswalkers, and the kind with Cavalier of Flame. The Cavalier build is a midrange / combo hybrid that kills on turn five or six with hasty monsters. It is better against Cat / Oven decks and midrange decks than the other versions, which have to control the board and win later in the game. This version adds God-Eternal Oketra and Adventure creatures to win quicker and play a stronger game without Fires of Invention. God-Eternal Oketra plays better with Adventure creatures and Kenrith, Returned King than Cavalier of Gales does, and Oketra is also better against Mystical Dispute.

I prefer BO1 to BO3 for a variety of opponents and experiences. It also makes shorter videos possible since a BO3 match can take an entire video’s length on it’s own. I prefer Standard Events to Ranked Ladder because of a more varied meta and better rewards. If you get to 4 wins, you get your gold entree fee back and you get some card rewards. If you get to seven wins you double your gold. I estimate I have made about an extra 10,000 gold this season from playing Standard Events vs Ranked Ladder.

This deck was inspired by someone who crushed me on ladder with Fires, Oketra, Cavalier of Flame. You only need to get hit for 24 out-of-nowhere once to be “inspired”

I cut one win from the video because it was too easy, and I didn’t include a loss to Gruul Adventures because I honestly forgot to hit record. Final record, 7-2.

The next randomly selected video for the Color Challenge is Jund.

  1. I prefer a “lucky charm” fires build with Fae, borrower, and giant. I cut cavalier of flames for access to sideboard for big momentum swings. Plus I like the Planewide/Bolos combo.

  2. I personally like the Jeskai Fires Superfriends variant; It does a lot of neat things while avoiding a lot of creature removal

  3. This deck makes me extremely hot and bothered
I'm working on a Niv Mizzet Parun variant of Fires. I'll build it after Theros drops but it looks sickeningly sweet after doing testing on tappedout

  4. I really like the Fayette wishes version it really opens up the packages or your sideboard to do pretty much anything you would like coming out of your side board provided you have fires on the board it's overall just a great idea I think with the other versions you're rather Limited

  5. I love the cavalier version just because I love the interaction between cavaliers and fires. On the other hand, I despise the superfriends variant as it durdles for far too long for my taste, and all of its interaction being at sorcery speed due to fires plays out in a way that feels off to me compared to similar style decks.

  6. Really like this style of fires. Just enjoy games with strong creatures (love your Neo Niv deck). Started playing in M20 so I'm lacking a lot of these older rares. Plenty of mythics though…

  7. CGB, you amaze me every day with your videos. I don’t have the time or $ for magic any longer, so your videos fuel that void 💪🏼

  8. I said it yesterday, but worth repeating, I really like the added info in the description. I definitely think adding Oketra for a lot of big hasty creatures is the coolest and most fun version of fires. Also seems like it just might be the best in general?

  9. Am I the only one thinking lavinia should be great in a meta with nissa and fires?

  10. I think at 20:28 a cool line would be Teferi, bounce prism realm, old Teferi back, bounce their fires, and you get 2 cards from the exchange.
    And have 1 sphinx.

  11. I like playing the toolbox of fae of wishes but I gotta say cavalier fires is incredibly consistent

  12. I’ve played the Fires variants quite a bit and settled on the Cavaliers version for consistency. A good string of luck in matchups with it helped propel a Mythic run (with some Jund Sacrifice, Golgari Adventures and Simic Ramp weaved in along the way). I haven’t tried Oketra and really like it in theory for just slamming the door quickly, but the draws from Gales can be really clutch in games that get very grindy, and it offers a significant chance of drawing into Cavalier of Flames or Kenrith to drop the hammer as well.

Whatever the case, I strongly identify with your anxiety and subsequent relief when blue/green mana source hits the board then drops Leafkin Druid. Simic Flash and anything else that runs counters is an absolute beating.

  13. I played the same deck, I love oketra, but I put T3f in sideboard only for flash decks, I dont see any other matchup where he is better than a removal with all these little creatures, oven, haste, adventures or ETB effects

  14. Fires of reanimation is my most fun deck I have ever played, took me to diamond rank and consistently puts in net positive when farming gold. And its actually fun to play unlike sacrifice or mono red

  15. As if beating the sh*t out of them wasn't enough, my man here is telling them to go play Hearthstone. Pure disrespect.

  16. Hey CQB, appreciate the content 🙂

Always down for your gameplay videos, but I really like your meta update and uour discussion and analysis. If you want to dive deeper into the practical differences of these three Jeskai Fires variants, I would really be interested in that kind of comparison. I hardly speak for the community but I always look for videos that help me think like a high ELO player does. Analysing and dissecting different aspects of the meta would be really helpful and interesting.

Thanks again for the work. Keep it up!
