  1. To be fair, Diablo 1 and 2 are very, very different kinds of games. Diablo 1 is much closer to survival horror game. You move slowly, the mobs are more than a match for you even in small quantities, and it's much narrower and more claustrophobic.

By comparison, Diablo 2 is a straight up action game. You can slaughter enemies by the hundreds with little difficulty.

It's like the difference between Alien and Aliens. They're fundamentally different, and each amazing in their own way.

  2. I agree, and that is also why soo many think the feel of Diablo 1 is better than that of Diablo 2, it's a game about the evils and battling the evils, imo it's not supposed to be pure action, it's supposed to be a survival horror game with action..

That's where Diablo 2 failed, not saying that D2 wasn't good, it's great 🙂 but I hope that Diablo 3 will go back to the horror roots of Diablo 1, I am certain it will be for the better.

  3. yeah, i hope D3 has archaic-drum based music like D1
i didnt like how some of the music in D2 was just ambiance

  4. The problem is that they started basing the games into the style of comics, so thats where all the colorfulness comes from, even from runic games the title torchlight which I just bought is a cartoony game, I wish that someone is ale to translate this kind of diablo 1 horror into modern day gaming, of course it might be linked to what the teach in art schools and such for gaming crews

  5. @cmdrchris971
It had the most atmosphere. It was the creepiest too, it got what it aimed for. The others just seem like massive lvling games. I played it for the scare.

  6. Matt Uelmenn is a very talented musican, he's one who created all the music for both Diablo, and the sequel.. Sadly he's not with Blizzard anymore, so it'll sound different in the upcomming game.

  7. This is the only fiablo i can "get into". I'm actually talking to the game, and having a lot of fun. The others aren't so fun.

  8. So freakin true. I always felt Diablo 1 was harder and less forgiving to say. It's hard to run away from enemies and you die if you die. Maybe hit recovery mattered more too.

  9. i totally agree aswell i think diablo 2 lost its gothic style a bit and diablo 3 looks pretty shit to be honest only bit i really liked in diablo 2 was the monestary with all the tortured rogues and ther guts and blood everywere lol made the game look awsome lol im a bit sad diablo 3 doesnt look as dark and bloody as its previous games but i hope its good anyway 🙂

  10. @hydrolisk1792

It's because it wasn't a massive commercial sucess, which is more important to them than artistic merit.

  11. @AvengerForSasuke how do you know that d3 i not as dark and gothic as d1? have you played it?

  12. @TheAbelinc2 Diablo 3 has not been under development by blizzard for 6-7 years. Blizzard north started making it in 2003~ and it was "done" in 2005 but the blizzard entertainment big boys cancelled it because it "didn't live up to their standards". which led to blizzard norths doom. And now blizzard entertainment has started making it since 2007.

  13. The catacombs was the creepiest area to me… darker and the creatures were way more twisted. Plus those damn charging horned demons zooming at you from nowhere

  14. @DiabloHunter43 most awesome chain of sentences existing in the whole world

  15. making diablo 2 and 3 is just stupid.. i mean, how many times they are going to make a game to kill diablo, 7? can you imagine diablo 7? kill diablo with a sword one time can be believable, but more than 1 is just ridiculous

  16. @bowm0 there are more evils than diablo… andariel duriel asmodan mephisto diablo and baal and some more were already mentioned in diablo 1. if you read the story you should know…

  17. 2:06-3:57

The creepiest, weirdly still the most awesome part of the soundtrack. A riff of it later comes back in the D2 track "Crypt".

  18. @BastiBerlin1980 Apparently Blizzard is trying to steal Blizzard North's ideas (since they were the ones who made Diablo good in the first place) and so Blizzard's Brightest copied Mythos…

  19. i dont agree. Have you seen the beta tests and the graphics there? It is dark and scary but it is also well made. You can actually distinguish between the different objects. They got rid of all the noise and made all the objects individual and not a blurr. I know that D1 people couldnt make them a lot better due to technological restrictions but if they could they would have.

  20. ive been watching and playing this game for almost 13 years now (i can only remember up to three years old) and i still love diablo :3 the catacombs were freaky at first! but then i got to the cave area and i thought the catacombs and dungeon were like something off of a picture book for kids 😛 ehehe, still freaky though ^_^; diablo is a classic 🙂

  21. This is one of the most creepy things that I experienced in D1. This poem is just as vile and horrific as the game itself.

  22. It's nothing too special, it merely resembles the atmosphere of the first two games. However, they got to record 90 min. of Matt playing his 12-string before he left Blizzard. That's why Act I do have tracks that sounds a bit like the old themes. But it's kind of irrelevant when the game itself lacks substance as a Diablo game. They changed everything to be just a World of Warcraft clone set in Sanctuary with hack'n'slash elements. The graphics are something from a 2002 game as well.

  23. I now know why I dont enjoy play diablo 3 once the story was completed the first time around. It is the music. It does not have the great soundtracks and ambiance as diablo one had.
